Dogs Are Wonderful Creatures!

Dogs are a gift from God. They love you no matter what, they don't care if you are old, fat, ugly, smelly, stupid or incarcerated. They require a certain amount of responsibility but in a lopsided way give much more than they require. Even the care that they require gives us a reason to get out of bed in the morning and a reason to come home at night...if just to take care of a creature that is faithfully waiting for your undivided attention.

I think society should make more use of the love that dogs provide. I think the world would be a better place if dogs were allowed in the prison system, retirement homes and orphanages. Dogs have a way of drawing love from humans that cannot be duplicated and giving love where none would otherwise be found. Studies have shown that dogs assist the mentally ill and children suffering from autism. Moreover, dogs can help people who are suicidally inclined. Afterall, what will happen to your dog if you knock yourself off? I wonder how many pets have foiled suicidal plans simply because the owner would not want to leave their companion.

In the end, dogs give love to people that might not otherwise have access to it, they provide companionship to the lonely and bring joy when there is nothing but sadness. They are like no other creatures on this planet and should hold a place of high esteem in our hearts and in our world.
